The National Tempus Office of Lebanon

Established in 2003, to implement, coordinate and promote the Tempus programme in Lebanon. It is also responsible for improving the relevance, effectiveness and impact of the programme in the country.

Since 2008, the Office has been acting on behalf of the EACEA (Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) the EU Commission body in charge of managing the programme.

Located at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Beirut.
Represented by Dr. Aref Alsoufi, the National Tempus Office coordinator, referred to as NTO.

Specific Objective
To assist the authorities in the partner countries in the Tempus programme implementation.

Results to be achieved by the National Tempus Office

  • High awareness and visibility in the partner country about the Tempus programme,
  • Assistance provided to Tempus local potential applicants, applicants and beneficiaries. Assistance provided to any stakeholder involved in the implementation of the Tempus programme,
  • Field monitoring plans implemented. Projects monitored on the spot at different stage of their implementation. Recommendations proposed for the follow up of project's implementation,
  • Feedback on project applications circulated by the EACEA during selection processes,
  • Upon specific request by the EACEA or Commission's Directorate Generals, contribution provided in the framework of the realisation of studies, analysis, statistics, report related to higher education,
  • Support to the EACEA for the organisation of events in the partner country,
  • Support to the team of Higher Education Reform Experts (HEREs),
  • High awareness and visibility in the partner country about other European Union higher education programmes and initiatives, in particular about the Erasmus Mundus programme.

  • Information and promotion activities,
  • Assistance to potential applicants and to beneficiaries,
  • Field monitoring of running projects,
  • Support to the team of Higher Education Reform Experts (HEREs),
  • Activities related to other EU programmes in the field of higher education, in particular to the Erasmus Mundus programme.
